The short explanation of this alert was:

Urge the Legislature to restore environmental funding and pass the Bottle Bill!

Governor Paterson and the Legislature will be finalizing state budget decisions in the coming weeks in order to address the state's current fiscal crisis.  We need your help to protect the Environmental Protection Fund (EPF) in these difficult economic times.  Numerous economic analyses have proven that investing in the environment can yield significant returns on the state’s investment, create hundreds of new jobs, and make the State’s communities more attractive to businesses and people.  The EPF, the state's primary source of environmental funding provides much needed resources for parkland improvements, Smart Growth initiatives, protection of open space, and restoration of the state’s land, air and water resources.  This funding is vital to ensure that future generations will be able to appreciate the unique and irreplaceable natural wonders New York has to offer.

We need your help! While Governor Paterson has taken a bold step by proposing expansion of the Bottle Bill, he has proposed a $50 million cut to the EPF, including reductions to important funding for Audubon Nature Centers. Send a letter to your Senate and Assembly members right away asking them to support the Bigger, Better, Bottle Bill, restore funding for the EPF and continue to invest in protecting the state’s birds, other wildlife and their habitats before its too late!
