The short explanation of this alert was:

Send a letter in support of DEC’s assertion of jurisdiction at EPCAL!

We need your help today!  Earlier this month, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) halted development at the Enterprise Park at Calverton (EPCAL) pending the completion of a comprehensive environmental review. The 2,900 acre site has been sold to developers by the Town of Riverhead and development at the site had already been in progress. The property contains one of the last remaining tracts of grassland habitat on Long Island and supports wintering populations of endangered Short-eared Owls and threatened Northern Harriers. By asserting jurisdiction the DEC is exercising its duty to ensure that proposed development does not adversely affect endangered species habitat at the site.

The state is now under enormous pressure to cease this review process and allow development to continue.  Please send a letter to the Governor today and show your support for the DEC in their action to ensure that a proper environmental review is conducted prior to further development!
