On April 26, the Bush administration released the "Draft Recovery Plan for the Northern Spotted Owl," which rolls back more than a decade of protections for the old-growth forests that the owls depend on for their survival. Recovery of the owl is about more than this one species. Like a canary in a coal mine, the Spotted Owl is an indicator species of the health of the remaining old growth forests.
Comment deadline extended to August 24, 2007! Submit your comments to tell the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to take their draft plan back to the drawing board. Personalized letters are the most effective. Please edit the sample letter below to tell the FWS why protecting Spotted Owls and old-growth forests is important to YOU.
